While you can donate to organizations found on our NGOs page, there are also many local organizations where you can volunteer first hand with animals. Volunteering at these facilities not only helps those who work there, but it increases the quality of life for these animals. Just ask those who have volunteered with animals before, it's a life-changing experience!
Conservators Center- Mebane, NC
Conservators' Center is a nonprofit organization that preserves threatened species through rescuing wildlife in need, responsible captive breeding, and providing educational programs and support worldwide. The Conservators' Center has a very small staff. They depend on committed volunteers to help them run the office, provide tours and offsite education programs, plan and carry out fundraising activities, construct new habitats, care for the grounds, and manage all of the care for our many animals.

Carolina Tiger Rescue, formerly the Carnivore Preservation Trust, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit wildlife sanctuary whose mission is saving and protecting wild cats in captivity and in the wild. Volunteering is a great way to become intimately involved with Carolina Tiger Rescue and their animals. Prior experience with animals can be helpful, but isn’t required. They rely on volunteers to help with a number of important jobs, including animal care, construction and maintenance, office support, and guiding tours.

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is dedicated to enriching the lives of blind and visually impaired men and women by providing them with the freedom to travel safely with the assistance of professionally trained Guiding Eyes dogs, thereby assuring greater independence, dignity and new horizons of opportunity. Here, you have the opportunity to raise a puppy that will eventually become a guide dog for the blind.

The Burlington Pet Adoption Center welcomes volunteers who have a sincere interest in animals. To be an effective volunteer there must have a sincere interest in the work to be done, acceptance of supervision, adherence to their policies and a prudent use of common sense when working with the animals. They ask volunteers to be professional and courteous at all times, and to maintain the dignity and credibility of the shelter and adoption center with the public.
